FAQ

Q: Will Kanna get me high?

A: No Kanna will not get you high if taken as directed.  Some people take Kanna in very high doses hoping to achieve the "ecstasy" like effects reported in a popular VICE magazine article.  Even at higher doses it is nothing like being on ecstasy or opioids or even cannabis for that matter.  It's hard to describe but it does not impair you or prevent you from performing every day tasks.  In actual fact, Kanna is excellent at motivating you to do things you've been putting off.

Q:  Is Kanna addictive?

A: No Kanna is non addictive and actually has anti-addiction properties.  People who use Kanna often report a dramatic decrease in their use, interest and dependence on other substances.

Q: Is Kanna safe for everyone?

A: This is a tricky question.  Kanna is GRAS (generally regarded as safe) and is recommended for adults.  Kanna has also had safe use established for pets as small as dogs, cats and mice.  Kanna may be safe for some children if the benefits outweigh the risks.  Kanna should not be given to children without the supervision and guidance of a doctor, naturopath or herbalist.  If your medical professional does not know anything about Kanna, try seeking out a naturopath or herbalist in your area or even online who does.

Q: When is the best time to take Kanna?

A: For most people, Kanna is best taken in the morning.  While Kanna is NOT a stimulant, it it does have some stimulating effects which improve focus, attention and cognitive ability.  Kanna is native to Africa, where it is traditionally used for hunting and other exercises that require alertness, awareness, focus and stamina.  Occasionally some people may find that Kanna can cause insomnia if taken too late in the day.  With that said most people report improved sleep while using Kanna so it's best to go low and slow and figure out what works best for you; and what it is you're trying to achieve.

Q: Can Kanna be mixed with other herbs? Alcohol? Drugs?

A: The short answer is no.  Mixing Kanna with another SSRI or MAOI is dangerous and can lead to a serious condition called "Seratonin Syndrome".  If you are taking any medication, supplement, or herbal remedy, you should talk to your medical provider to ensure there are no contraindications before taking Kanna.  Kanna is synergistic with many herbs.  Cannabis and Psilocybin are both very popular and both are potentiated by Kanna.  This means that Kanna amplifies the effects of these plant medicines.  If you are already taking these or other plant medicines, use caution.  Cannabis alone is pretty straight forward but Psilocybin is often complexed with compounds that are MAOI's.

The four most common pharmaceutical MAOI's are selegiline, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine.

The nine most commonly used plants that contain compounds with MAOI properties are:

- Syrian rue and yagé which are used mainly for psychoactive effects (check your ingredients).  These are the two most potent natural MAOI's.

- Passion flower, nutmeg, liquorice and fragrant ginger contain MAOIs, though they are used primarily as food and in folk medicine, rather than for inebriation.  When taken in normal culinary amounts they pose little to no risk.  Just avoid consuming huge amounts of them within an hour of taking your Kanna.  Caltrop, cowhage and heart-leaved moonseed are used mainly in Āyurvedic medical treatments and for aphrodisiac purposes.  Cowhage aka Velvet Bean extract is also used in body building and as a mood booster but goes by the commercial name Levo-Dopa.

NOTE: 50mg is a very low dose of Kanna. It's very unlikely that anyone  will experience any accidental contraindications at such a low dose.  We obviously err on the side of caution and therefore set our guidelines such that everyone is kept as safe as possible.

Q: What are MAOI's?

A: Monoamine oxidases (MAOs) are a family of enzymes found in the brain, gut, liver and other tissues; they catalyse the oxidation and inactivation of monoamine neurotransmitters, including serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine, which are important in the regulation of mood.

There are two kinds of MAO: MAO-A and MAO-B. MAO-A is found primarily in the intestine and in the regions of the brain that have serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and tyramine substrates; MAO-B is found primarily in platelets and in the regions of the brain that are rich in dopaminergic neurons.

The function of MAO inhibition was discovered in 1958. Drugs that suppress MAO-A in the brain have been used as anti-depressants since then. These drugs remain far longer in the system than plant-based sources. MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) inhibit the MAO enzyme, thereby allowing serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine to accumulate in the synapse. Mood changes induced by MAOIs can also be aphrodisiac, which possibly why Kanna has been reported to be a potent aphrodisiac and anecdotally touted to help with erectile dysfunction.

Kanna Mints

Introducing the all-natural Kanna mints, a safe and effective way to boost your mood and ease stress. With 50mg of Kanna extract in each mint, this plant-based supplement contains 20% alkaloids and has been used for centuries by South African indigenous peoples.

HOW TO ENJOY?

Simply dissolve one mint under your tongue in the morning and feel the effects within 30 minutes to 3 hours. The full effects can take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks to fully build serum and present.  The timing and results depend on your unique chemistry and metabolism.

Kanna users report improved; focus, mood and even vision.  Before you go popping out your contacts, it's not going to fix poor eyesight.  However it does make normal sight seem sharper and enhanced.  Like Color's are just slightly more vivid.  Which adds to the boost in mood.  But it is anything but intoxicating or inebriating in any way. When taken as directed, Kanna is non psychoactive and has zero inebriating effects.  It sounds cliché but it's literally just a "good day" mint.

!!CONTRAINDICATIONS!!

It's important to note that Kanna should not be mixed with SSRI's, MAOI's, or DPE-4 reuptake inhibitors. If you are unsure whether any medication you are taking may not be safe to take with Kanna, please talk to your doctor or medical professional before taking Kanna in any form.

Kanna is synergistic with other herbs and plants.
Cannabis and psilocybin are both potentiated by Kanna so use caution if taking these or any other health products.

Alcohol potentiates all herbs and drugs so it should be avoided.

SIDE EFFECTS?
Side effects are rare but some sensitive individuals may develop a headache or dry mouth.  This can be mitigated by simply increasing your water intake and electrolytes prior to use.

Kanna naturally contains high levels of oxalic acid. This is the same compound found in raw kale, spinach and other herbaceous leafy greens that we are encouraged to cook before eating.

When consumed in higher amounts, oxalic acid can cause stomach upset, headache and overtime... kidney stones. This is why it's important to only use Kanna that is either heat processed or fermented.  Both of these processes dramatically reduce the amount of oxalic acid left present in the Kanna so that it is safe for use.
This is true for both leaf and extract alike.

STRENGTH

Clinical trials we found ranged from 12mg - 350mg.  The most benefits, at the lowest dose, with the least amount of reported side effects were recorded between 25mg - 75mg.  After conducting our own research and development we settled on a 50mg blend.

WHAT KIND OF EXTRACT IS IT?
Our extract is actually a blend of 2 types of extract.

One is a cold processed fermented extract that is focus centric and boosts mood and energy.  It’s quite bitter and makes the tongue go a little numb.

The other extract was created using heat and is more palatable with a caramel sort of flavour.  This extract  has more of a body warming blissful effect.

Together we feel that the combination of these two extracts are able to provide all of the effects that we desired.  When purchasing Kanna extracts it's important to note that there are a lot of different processes used to make them.  Some actually require harsh chemicals that can leave contaminants and heavy metals behind.  Knowing how the extract is made, is as important as knowing the alkaloid content.  (20% alkaloids is the current golden standard)

HEAVY METALS?
The extracts and labs we chose to work with both use water and ethanol extraction only, which is the cleanest and safest process.  The only extracts we use come with COA's for potency, purity, heavy metals and other contaminants.

CLINICAL DATA? BENEFITS?

Kanna has been the subject of clinical trials in both humans and animals.  In human trials Kanna proved to be effective at reducing stress and cortisol whilst boosting mood, focus and energy.  Kanna was also found to improve ADHD and sleep. There are also unsubstantiated claims that Kanna is an aphrodisiac.  We were able to find some anecdotal positive references of Kanna reportedly improving blood flow to the nethers of both sexes.  Perhaps worth exploring but nothing statistically significant.

WHAT ABOUT USE WITH PETS?

In a 2017 trial conducted with cats and dogs, both showed improved stress management.  The dogs in particular showed a complete cessation of neurotic barking when experiencing separation anxiety.   In a post lockdown animal companion boom, we know that this could be a game changer for many animal lovers and their pets!

We are currently in research and development of pet treats for anxious and/depressed animals.  Stay posted for information on their progress!

Heavy Metal Detox

Nano Zeolite (clinoptilolite)
Our nano zeolite is a powerful and versatile mineral that offers a wide range of benefits for your health and well-being. This ultra-fine zeolite is highly effective at detoxifying the body by trapping and removing harmful toxins, heavy metals, and pollutants. Its small particle size allows for greater surface area, enhancing its ability to cleanse and purify at a cellular level.

In addition to its detoxifying properties, nano zeolite also has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It helps to reduce inflammation, support the immune system, and protect against oxidative stress. This makes it an excellent supplement for promoting overall health and vitality.

Our nano zeolite is carefully sourced and processed to ensure maximum purity and effectiveness. It is free from fillers, additives, and contaminants, making it a safe and reliable choice for your detoxification and health needs. Incorporate this incredible mineral into your daily routine and experience the transformative benefits it has to offer.

Dosage:  The recommended dosage for zeolite can vary depending on the individual's health goals and needs. However, a common starting dosage is typically around 1-5 grams (1/2tsp - 1tbsp) per day, taken either all at once or divided into smaller doses throughout the day.

It is important to start with a lower dose and gradually increase as needed, while monitoring how your body responds to the supplement. It is always best to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen to ensure it is appropriate for your specific health circumstances.

Instructions:  When using zeolite, it is important to note that non-metallic serving utensils and containers should be used to prevent any potential interactions with the supplement.

We recommend using utensils made of wood, ceramic, or plastic for measuring and serving zeolite.  Metal utensils or containers may react with the zeolite, affecting its potency and effectiveness.  By using non-metallic utensils and containers, you can ensure that you are getting the full benefits of this powerful mineral supplement.

Known Side Effects: Known side effects of zeolite are typically mild and rare, but may include:

1. Flatulence: Some individuals may experience increased gas or bloating when taking zeolite, especially when starting with higher doses. This is usually temporary and can be managed by adjusting the dosage or frequency of intake.

2. Constipation: In rare cases, zeolite may cause constipation, particularly if taken in extremely high amounts. It is important to drink plenty of water when using zeolite to help prevent constipation and ensure proper hydration.  Given that zeolite traps heavy metals and contaminants and them is extremes via the waste systems, drinking plenty of water and consuming adequate amounts of fibre will ensure that the pathogens are expelled quickly and efficiently.

As with any supplement, it is essential to follow recommended dosages and consult with a healthcare provider before starting a new regimen, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects while taking zeolite, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

Serving Suggestions:  Our favourite way to serve zeolite is stirred into a glass of apple juice and water.  However, we've had customers share recipes for baking it into cookies or adding it to jams and sauces.
